Kenneth E. Reid 93, 97 is a chaplain in the United States Army. He is currently deployed to Iraq and is serving more than 1,100 soldiers. He said that he greatly enjoys the opportunity to minister Christ's love to all people, regardless of their religious affiliation, ethnic background or spoken language.

"The people of the world need the Lord and being a minister (i.e., chaplain) means crossing all the lines of men to reach the lost and hurting," Reid said. "As a captain you quickly learn how mere men and women hide behind their titles of rank and insecurities to prevent the Word of God from reaching their hearts."

Reid said that one of the more challenging aspects of his duty is to work through the walls of separation due to the rank structure of the Army. However, he has been able to reach many soldiers.

"My ministry is to erect a foundation of the love of Christ through friendship, acceptance and affirmation of their individuality, such that the walls soldiers hide behind fall in the presence of the Lord," Reid said.

Reid and his wife, Shawn, and daughters Yasmine, 5, and Sion, 2, live at Fort Campbell, Ky., where Reid is regularly stationed.
