Honoring Those Who Serve
Chester C. Egert 80

"As a shepherd cares for his flock, so a chaplain will find a tremendous amount of joy in ministering to soldiers while deployed with them," Egert said. "It's in places like Iraq or Afghanistan where soldiers will face their loneliest moments and greatest challenges. Just being there and praying with them brings enormous encouragement and strength."
Egert said he has also learned that the empowerment of the Holy Spirit is vital to his job.
"The military needs leaders, not simply managers who run programs or organizations," Egert said. "It's very hard in the military at times. But chaplains who sense God's clear call in their lives, obey Him, and stay filled with His Spirit will be able to go the distance."
