Greg "Frog" Thogmartin 82, 87 is currently serving as a brigade chaplain for the U.S. Army and was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq. He has been involved in ministry since the completion of his undergraduate work at ORU. He has been an army chaplain since 1993 in the Army Reserve and then transitioned to the active duty chaplaincy in 1998. Thogmartin said he greatly enjoys the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of soldiers.

"With regard to serving here in Iraq, I am reminded that life is full of mysteries, things we cannot explain, and which are meant to move us toward God," Thogmartin said. "Years ago in the midst of a crisis in our lives we heard our pastor begin his prayer with these words: 'Lord, we stand on the edge of the abyss of a mystery. . .' I have come to think about those words with regard to much of the suffering that I see here. I can't explain it away and I don't try. But, I can point soldiers toward the One in whom I place my confidence. As Corrie ten Boom said, 'There is no pit so deep that He is not deeper still.'"

Thogmartin has been married to his wife, Julie, for 22 years and has eight children (six girls and two boys).
