Dean L. Prentice 88 is now a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps. He holds the position of commander of the 579th Medical Operations Squadron at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. He also holds the rank of chief nurse over the 579th Medical Group. Prentice said he finds great honor in his responsibility.

"The men and women of the Air Force are a group of dedicated professionals working toward one mission: defense of the constitution and the country," Prentice said. "Working alongside these members makes me realize how fortunate I am to live in this country."

Prentice has also enjoyed being able to live and work in many different cultures in the U.S. and abroad. He said it has allowed him to grow both as an individual and as a Christian leader.

"Leadership and nursing are evolving practices which take lifelong study, practice, mentorship, and an open attitude," Prentice said. "Compassion, mercy, and justice are truly characteristics I have honed in both my roles as the chief nurse and commander."

Prentice lives at Bolling AFB with his wife, Melissa, and their three children, Grace, 10, Claire, 8, and Shad, 5.
