Golden Eagles Fall To Purdue in NCAA Tournament First Round, 63-42

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Purdue raced out to a 21-4 lead and never trailed as the second-seeded Boilermakers defeated No. 15 seed Oral Roberts University, 63-42, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night at Williams Arena.

The Boilermakers (29-5) advance to play seventh-seeded Georgia Tech in Monday's second round. The Golden Eagles (22-11) saw their season come to an end.

Elisha Turek (Council Bluffs, Iowa) had a team-high 16 points on 7-of-17 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds for her 55th career double-double. The senior finished her remarkable four-year career with 2,054 points and 1,167 rebounds.

After trailing 21-4, ORU battled back by outscoring Purdue, 9-to-2, to draw within 23-13 with 5:50 remaining in the first half. It was the closest the Golden Eagles would get to the Dallas Regional's No. 2 seed.

ORU went into locker room at halftime trailing 35-17.

Jenny Hardin (Claremore, Okla.) led the Golden Eagles in scoring in the first half with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting and 1-of-2 from beyond the arc. Purdue's defense limited ORU to a 35.3 shooting clip while the Boilermakers shot 58.3 percent and went 3-of-6 from long distance.

The Golden Eagles showed some life in the second half by keeping up with Purdue. A pair of free throws by Turek followed up by a jumper by Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) made it a 47-27 ballgame. Camargo finished the night with seven points and seven rebounds.

Purdue only outscored ORU, 28-25, in the second frame.

Turek scored 12 of her 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the second half. ORU limited Purdue to a 48 percent shooting clip and forced 10 turnovers.

For the night, the Golden Eagles struggled from beyond the arc, going 1-of-12 from long distance. Meanwhile, Purdue made 6-of-10 3-pointers.

Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton led Purdue with 16 points and nine rebounds while Katie Gearlds and FahKara Malone scored 11 and 10 points respectively.
