About 100 ORU student volunteers enjoyed the fruits of their labors when Tulsa's $250 million general obligation--"GO"--bond package was passed on April 5.

Together, all six propositions, covering improvements in transportation, sanitary sewer, flood control, police equipment, fire stations, and public facilities, saw an average of 71 percent approval from a voter turnout of 36,000. Proposition 3, which directly affects ORU's campus, was passed with 24,707 votes. The proposition allots $32.8 million for drainage improvements for Fred Creek, Joe Creek, and others. In the past, Fred Creek has caused considerable flood damage to buildings on campus during heavy rains.

Laneice Goodwin (Class of 2004), campaign coordinator for the student volunteers, said they had a good night at the watch party at the Hilton Southern Hills Hotel. "The mayor (Bill LaFortune) was very appreciative, and other groups recognized our efforts." Student volunteers have spent the past few weeks conducting phone surveys, campaigning door-to-door, and passing out signs to support the bond issue.
