Today, Adlan Cruz (ORU Class of '92) is familiar with the high-profile life of a world-renowned classical pianist - frequent international flights, enthusiastic audiences, multiple CDs. He also knows what it's like to share his music at giant crusades with evangelical luminaries such as Ron Kenoly and Billy Graham.

But not too long ago, he was simply an ORU student attending weekly chapel services in order to praise and worship the Lord he loves.

During a recent visit to the ORU campus as a chapel guest, this was just one insight Cruz shared with students and staff alike:

"Use the gifts that God has given you," Cruz told the crowd, which included middle and high school students at ORU for the annual ORU Educational Fellowship National Finals Competition, a weeklong event for students who attend Christian schools. "I was once sitting where you are now... I didn't just wake up being able to play this way. It takes practice and dedication to excellence. God is pleased when you use your talents and focus on becoming the best you can be."

Cruz also shared his musical talents on both piano and keyboard, from traditional hymns to original compositions to a jazzy, largely improvised jam session with ORU Music Ministries musicians. He ended his chapel performance with a popular medley of everyday music - from "The Simpsons" theme song to "Mario Brothers" video game music.
