Who says nothing ever happens in college sports during the summer months?

Recent announcements from ORU's athletics area prove that the dog days are anything but a snooze.

Baseball head coach Sunny Golloway resigned on June 10 to take the assistant coach position at the University of Oklahoma. He will serve under former ORU head coach Larry Cochell. ORU's new head coach is Rob Walton, who has been ORU's pitching coach since 1998.

Tulsa has been selected to host the Mid-Continent Conference men's and women's basketball tournament for 2005. Games will be played March 5-8 at Expo Square's Pavilion.

Rumors ran rampant that Athletics director Mike Carter would leave ORU for the AD job at the University of Kansas, where former ORU basketball head coach Bill Self recently signed on. Not true. Carter is staying at ORU.

Catcher David Castillo has become ORU's first two-time All-American. He was named to the National Collegiate Writer's Association All-America second team this year. In 2002, he was third-team All-America for Collegiate Baseball and earned other All-America honors as well.

ORU finished second in the running for the Mid-Con Commissioner's Cup, with eight conference championships. ORU had won the cup in 2000, 2001, and 2002. Western Illinois received this year's honor.

Marsha Dawkins and Rachel Viau qualified for the NCAA Division I Women's Track and Field Championships, being held at Cal State- Sacramento. Dawkins, of Old Harbour, Jamaica, is competing in the 400-meter dash. Viau, who is from Nipomo, Calif., is a pole vaulter.
