Students, Faculty Honored

At the Honors Reception on April 2 and in several chapel services since, ORU recognized the outstanding academic achievements of 60 students and 17 faculty members for the 2001-02 academic year.

Dr. Walter MacMillan of the School of Business received the "Scholar of the Year" award, which includes a $700 cash prize. He was honored for completing a total of six papers in eighteen months. He will present one of those papers, "A Comparative Study of Corporate Culture in Chile and Mexico," at the Pan-Pacific Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 29.

Dr. Pam DiVito-Thomas, who recently completed her Ph.D., received the Ruth Swearingen Award. This award, created by ORU business professor Dr. Eugene Swearingen, is named for his late mother, a former teacher. It is given each year to the faculty member who is deemed the best in the entire university. DiVito-Thomas received a plaque and a $1,000 cash award.

"Most Outstanding Achievement" student awards went to Rachel Calderon, Arts and Sciences; Philip Walsh, Business (Undergraduate); Vidar Ligard, Business (Graduate); Jayson Larremore, Education; Carla Clark, LifeLong Education; Cameo Billharz, Nursing; and Marc Pettograsso, Theology and Missions.
