Autori Concert Is Oct. 9
The memorial concert will also feature accomplished music students from local high schools. Outstanding juniors and seniors from Tulsa-area schools will be recognized with more than $190,000 in scholarship drawings, and one student will be selected to perform a concerto selection with the ORU orchestra.
A matinee performance will be presented at 10 a.m. the same day for all area elementary and middle school students. More than 6,000 students are expected to join in this exciting educational experience.
The annual concert honors the memory of Franco Autori, the conductor of the Tulsa Philharmonic from 1961 to 1971. A native of Naples, Italy, he directed in concert halls around the world, including Rome, Buenos Aires, and Warsaw. He came to America in 1928 and became an American citizen 10 years later. Autori was an accomplished musician and conductor, spending his last years as maestro at ORU.
ORU President Richard Roberts and First Lady Lindsay Roberts will co-host the event. The concert is open to the public, and admission is free. For more information, call 495-7037.
