The Few, the Proud, the VIPs

What's the best way to find out what's happening with the students of ORU? Talk to a student. What's a good way to find out what your chosen career might be like? Talk to an alumnus in your field.

What does the Office of Alumni Relations offer to address both of these situations? The VIP program.

Each year, Alumni Relations chooses about a dozen students who personify ORU's vision and who have exhibited strong character, leadership ability, sharp communication skills, and a commitment to academics. These students receive mentoring from Tulsa-area alumni, as well as training in interviewing, meeting etiquette, public speaking, and public relations. As ambassadors for ORU, they work events such as Homecoming and the Alumni Ministers Conference, serving as ushers and greeters, performing introductions, and assisting guests.

By interacting with alumni, VIPs can share with their predecessors "the inside story" of what life is like at ORU in the year 2000. They are also in a perfect position to raise the profile of ORU with campus visitors who know little or nothing about the University.

The VIPs for 2000-01 are: Brandon McGriff, president, Matt Lawrence, Michael Schriks, Amber Nordean, Amanda Preslar, Hannah Staub, Tamra Paselk, Melissa Jones, Ryan Shaughnessy, Paola Alvarez, Sarah Ellen Goolsby, Nina Tukarski, Ashleigh Clayton, and Mackenzie Smith.
