Is it going to be another virtual landslide for sports teams in 1999?

In the 1997-98 school year, ORU won seven conference championships. So far for 1998-99, ORU has won four.

It all began last fall with the volleyball team. The Lady Golden Eagles captured their second straight Mid-Continent Conference crown and played in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The men's indoor track team won their second straight title in February. Ben Chisum broke the conference record in the pole vault. He went on to the NCAA Championships and achieved All-American status by finishing eighth in the nation. (Only the top eight players in each event become All-Americans.)

The women's tennis team won their second conference championship in April. By triumphing over No. 2 seed Western Illinois, ORU received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The men's and women's golf teams also took the Mid-Con titles for the second year in a row. The women had a team-low 322. Five ORU players finished in the top ten.

The men edged out Southern Utah in a tie-breaker. Sophomore Charleton Dechert finished second with a 216.
