How Do We Improve Schools?

Education reform is a front-page issue these days in Oklahoma. ORU's School of Education recently hosted an impressive slate of speakers who discussed the ABCs of change with doctoral students.

The students' modular session on "Strategies for Educational Change" got off to a strong start with a four-day program that featured these speakers: Lt. Governor Mary Fallin, Tulsa Public Schools superintendent Dr. John Thompson, and Dr. Lindsey Gunn, senior associate of the renowned Cambridge Group.

Also speaking: Dr. Roy Peters, president and CEO of the Oklahoma Alliance for Manufacturing Excellence and a 25-year veteran of vocational-technical education; Oklahoma's Secretary of Education, Dr. Floyd Coppedge; Dr. Gene Callahan, superintendent of Tulsa Technology Center; and George Singer of Singer Brothers Oil Company, chairman of Oklahoma Task Force 2000.

Dr. Clarence Oliver, former dean of ORU's School of Education, was the program's final speaker at a luncheon on Saturday, March 20.

Dr. Jim Myers is the professor for the modular session.
