Alumni Ministers Conference
Pastors and associate pastors, children's and youth pastors, spiritual care directors, ministry founders, presidents, and directors, bishops, missionaries, ministers of evangelism and outreach, chaplains, Bible teachers, vicars, evangelists, ministers of music, and pastoral counselors from 30 states had an opportunity to talk with one another and be inspired anew by a man whose ministry has touched the lives of millions the world over: Oral Roberts.
David Wagner (73), director of Ministerial Relations, was responsible for organizing most of the event. He said that in terms of who came and who it impacted, "it went beyond my wildest imaginings. We had alumni who had not been back to ORU for years. This conference reached out and touched a whole group that hadn't reconnected with ORU in a long time." In between sessions, he said, "I saw many of them walking around campus, just looking around and savoring memories (of their days as students)."
Chancellor Roberts spoke at the opening service on Tuesday night, as did Kenneth Copeland and Larry Stockstill. President and Mrs. Roberts, Carlton Pearson, and Billy Joe Daugherty spoke on Wednesday morning. Six alumni shared their thoughts during chapel. The Roberts family candidly answered questions during a panel discussion on Wednesday afternoon. At the closing service on Wednesday night, the Roberts family and others laid hands on and prayed for all those who attended.
Will there be another Alumni Ministers Conference? That's up to the chancellor, the president, and the Lord. Based on the success of the 1998 conference, it is probable that there will be another one in the future.
