Dr. Lang Headed to Science Foo Camp

ORU professor of mathematics Dr. Andy Lang is one of 200 distinguished scientists from around the world to be invited to attend Science Foo Camp, an exclusive event sponsored by Nature Publishing Group, Google, and O'Reilly Media.

Lang is known for experimentation with Second Life, a virtual social network world, to build tools for education. Lang has used Second Life technology to teach classes, some completely online. "Visualizing of Atomic Modules Using Second Life" was the project he worked on with ORU student David Kobilnyk. "We demonstrate the usefulness of Second Life as a platform for enlivening major concepts in chemistry education," Lang said in a journal article for the Journal of Virtual Worlds Research. Those invited to the conference include Nobel laureates and prominent leaders in scientific research, media and industry. Science Foo Camp is a conference with no pre-planned agenda; the attendees plan the sessions the first night.
