Professor Works with City to Improve Water

Dr. Robert Stewart, professor of chemistry, completed a three-year phase one study in collaboration with the Tulsa Metropolitan Utility Authority Water Treatment Department.

The study involved pilot plant research at the A. B. Jewell Water Treatment facility in Broken Arrow. The research seeks ways to reduce disinfection by-products in Tulsa drinking water. A combination of chlorine and chlorine dioxide chemical pretreatment has shown promise in lower disinfection by-products. The work will continue into a phase two full plant test in 2010.
