Alumni Foundation Board Announces Commitment

In their quarterly business meeting on Thursday, May 5, 2011, the Board of Directors of the Oral Roberts University Alumni Foundation voted unanimously to make a significant contribution from the foundation's unrestricted funds to the Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center campaign.

The board will carefully evaluate available funds and anticipated expenses and determine the exact amount of the contribution based on these factors. Foundation Board Chair Jesse Pisors said this move sets a standard he hopes board members' fellow alumni will follow.

"This project is a rare opportunity in the university's nearly five-decade history for alumni to rally around a project that will literally and symbolically change the landscape of our beloved alma mater," Pisors said. "The Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center is the legacy of alumni and a treasure for current and future students. We want every ORU graduate and former student, from 1968 to 2011, to financially support this project with their best gift."

Construction of the new Alumni-Student Center will begin in the spring semester of 2012 on a field due east of the Prayer Tower and Prayer Gardens. To date, seed gifts of $8 million have been received.

The Alumni Foundation is governed by a nine-member board consisting of the chairman, vice chairman, secretary, and treasurer of the Alumni Association Board of Directors; the Alumni Relations director; the president of the ORU Faculty Senate; one person appointed by the Alumni Association Board; one person appointed by the ORU Board of Trustees; and the chairman of the ORU Trustees' Committee for Development/Alumni Relations (or an equivalent Trustees member).
