Oral Roberts University Names New Trustee
The board also named six to the Board of Reference and honored the late Billy Joe Daugherty
The Oral
Roberts University Board of Trustees recently added a new member: Roberta Potts,
J.D., attorney and daughter of the late Chancellor Oral Roberts. The board
voted to add Potts during a meeting last week.
A
native Tulsan, Potts has been a practicing attorney for the past nineteen
years. She is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association as well as the Oklahoma
Association for Justice.
Upon
graduation from Tulsa’s Memorial
High School, Potts attended Oral Roberts
University, earning an
undergraduate degree in history with a minor in French. She graduated with a
juris doctorate from ORU in 1987 and successfully completed the Oklahoma Bar
Examination later that summer.
In
her law practice, Potts concentrates in the area of personal injury and
accident law. She relates that representing people who have been injured in car
accidents is a natural extension of her Christian witness.
In
addition to her law practice, Potts speaks occasionally to church and Christian
groups in the Tulsa
area. For the past nineteen years she has served as a volunteer co-host for a
program titled “The Roadshow” on the Oasis Network (90.5 FM).
“Mrs. Potts
has much to bring to the board as its newest member, including a close
connection to ORU’s history and a strong desire to see success for the future
of the university,” said Mart Green, board chair of the ORU Board of Trustees.
“She will be a tremendous asset to this board and to ORU as we move into the
future.”
In other news
from the ORU Board of Trustees, six individuals have been voted onto the ORU
Board of Reference.
The
ORU Board of Reference is a group of ORU supporters who have agreed to serve on
this non-voting board, and represent ORU in their geographic areas and spheres
of influence. Information about ORU is communicated with this group regularly.
They are also available to provide counsel to the trustees and president.
The new
members are: Ilya Carrera, senior pastor of Centro Cristiano Betania in Panama; Derek
Dunn, executive pastor of City Harvest Church in Singapore; Mark Floyd, CEO of SafeNet, Inc.; Jorge H.
Lopez, senior pastor of Fraternidad Cristiana de Guatemala; Pastor
Juan Carlos Manzewitsch, M.Div., general director of Ministerios Visión
Internacional in Mexico; and Morris Sheats, D.Min., founder and senior pastor
of Heritage Church in Richardson, Texas.
Another
action of note voted on by the board in this latest meeting was to grant the
late Billy Joe Daugherty, former pastor of Victory Christian
Center, the status of “trustee
in perpetuity.” Daugherty served as a member of the former ORU Board of Regents
for many years and as acting president of ORU in 2007.
