Job Description

This position assists the Stage Manager in all set-up and tear-down of events at the Mabee Center, training and orientation of student workers, and ensuring that the student workers complete tasks according to event schedule at the Mabee Center.

Duties

  • Set-ups and tear-downs of technical equipment for each event.
  • Assists the Stage Manager in the oversight & supervision of student and part-time workers.
  • Schedules student workers at the discretion of the Stage Manager.
  • Hangs curtains, lights, trusses, winch motors,  screens and other miscellaneous pieces of production equipment.
  • Installs and uninstalls protective flooring system.
  • Operates production equipment during events.
  • Responds to calls on internal radio system and troubleshoots equipment during events.
  • Performs repairs on power cords, lights, and various event production equipment.
  • Uses power tools and utilizes basic carpentry, painting, and stagecraft skills.
  • Performs maintenance and general repair of the  electronic message center as instructed. 

Requirements

  • Requires a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver's License and must maintain driving record pursuant to University requirements necessary for the approved operation of University vehicles.
  • Employer will train as needed in the certified operation of forklifts, personnel lifts, and other equipment as deemed necessary.
  • Preferred experience in live entertainment environment.
  • Must be proficient in operation of complex mechanical/electrical systems during setup and presentation of events including: computerized winch control systems, computerized lighting control systems, spotlights, scoreboard systems, forklifts, and lifts provided for personnel. 
  • Previous supervisory experience and familiarity with recognized safety standards and training on relevant equipment and industry practices preferred.
  • Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and problem solving skills. 
  • Proven ability to work on variable and simultaneous tasks/demands in a fast-paced environment with frequent customer contact.

Physical Demands

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS will include but not be limited to:  sitting, standing, stooping, walking, crawling or kneeling, pushing or pulling of equipment, twisting of upper body, reaching, repetitive motion, high manual dexterity, climbing hand over hand, and frequent heavy lifting and carrying equipment over 51 lbs. Will be working with and around electrical equipment and high noise environment.  Vision to include near, far, and depth perception. Must be capable of work at heights; in personnel lifts; on catwalks, ladders, and scaffolding.

Notes

HOURS OF WORK & ATTENDANCE: Hours will vary according to event schedule and involves frequent overtime during evening, holiday, and weekend hours.  Reports for scheduled work shift(s) in a dependable and timely fashion in order to assure the smooth operation of the work unit and to minimize the interruption or delay of regular work output for the department.  Has no (or very rare) unscheduled absences, occurrences of tardiness, or requests to leave early.  


TRAVEL: Infrequent day trips on occasion.
