The Office of Student Resources is dedicated to serving you and strives to meet all of your needs as you pursue your education at ORU. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have additional questions.
The Disability Service Center, in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, assures that no qualified individual with a disability will be denied reasonable accommodations in modification of policies, practices, and procedures.
The Disability Service Center offers reasonable accommodations to clients based upon their individual needs. Accommodations offered to clients as services through this office include, but are not limited to the following:
- Alternative testing
- Adaptive HPER
- Note-taking and transcriptions
- Text enlargements
- Counseling on disability issues
- Parking and access services
- Academic adjustments
- Additional accommodations (deemed reasonable)
These accommodations are based on need, not desire. All services are intended to allow clients full access to the programs and campus of ORU and are not intended to give the client an unfair advantage over other students.
Students who wish to access services or wish to find out more information should contact the Office of Student Resources at 918.495.7018. Provision of services includes an intake process during which the existence of a qualified disability is verified and appropriate, reasonable accommodations are identified.
Students requesting services or accommodations are required to provide current documentation. Documentation standards to determine legal eligibility may be more stringent than for usual clinical practice. Eligibility is based upon documented clinical data and not on any self-reported or unsubstantiated diagnosis.
The Americans with Disabilities Act defines a person with a disability as one who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, has a record of such an impairment or is regarding as having such an impairment.
The Documentation of Diagnosis form provided below will aid you in obtaining the proper documentation from your diagnosing professional.
Once you have completed the Documentation of Diagnosis Form and have all of your documentation, make an appointment with the Student Resources Office. Please complete the Student Application for Disability Services Form to take with you to your appointment.
Services are to be renewed every semester. If you would like to renew services with the Student Resources Office, please complete the Student's Accommodations Renewal Form.
HPE Accommodation Requests
It is a fundamental requirement of Oral Roberts University (ORU) and the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) department that all students develop a healthy lifestyle through appropriate physical activity and good health habits. This requirement is accomplished through Health and Physical Education (HPE) courses that are to be taken every full-time semester of enrollment.
Each student should expect some or all of the following activities to be required of them during an HPE course:
- Participating in weekly physical activities, consisting of the activities below.
- Maintain a weekly log of aerobic points earned by participating in daily physical activity.
- Participating in a bi-yearly timed field test that consists of completing either a 2 miles walking or jogging, 5 miles cycling, 800 meters swim, or an arm ergo meter.
According to the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, ORU is able and willing to make accommodations to HPE courses to fit the varying needs of individuals based upon appropriate documentation regarding the functional impact(s) of a limitation or disability, whether permanent or temporary. Any variation from the ORU HPER policy will require proper documentation of the student’s limitations. All documentation should clearly identify the parameters of any physical issues and be processed through the Office of Disability Services in the Student Resources department.
To request accommodations for any HPE course, please have your doctor complete the form below and return to the Office of Student Resources.
