Each year as the flu season approaches, we all start to think about taking precautions. We want to make sure that everyone in the ORU family knows the precautions to take to prevent the spread of this virus. We want you to stay healthy. To reduce your risk, please read over the following steps from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.) Keep away from others as much as possible to keep from making others sick.

According to the CDC, the symptoms of flu include fever or chills and cough or sore throat. In addition, symptoms of flu can include runny nose, body aches, headache, tiredness, diarrhea, or vomiting. ORU students should contact Student Health Services at 495.6341 if they are exhibiting flu symptoms.  ORU faculty and staff should consult their personal physician if they are exhibiting these symptoms. The CDC recommends that people with influenza-like illness remain at home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever, or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
