Requirements For Specific Majors

Foreign Language Majors

Foreign language students should have installed French, German, or Spanish writing/proofing tools for MS Word, as well as the appropriate foreign keyboard configuration.

Graphic Design

As stated in the Student Handbook, ORU expects students to own a computer while attending the University. The Graphic Design program seeks to further standardize this expectation to improve organization and consistency. To accommodate the demands of the design profession, yet still provide the best use of resources, individual students majoring in Graphic Design (GRD) are required to purchase a minimum software and hardware platform. This requirement begins after completion of ART 218 Graphic Design I, which is generally before the fourth (4th) semester of a four-year degree plan. The standards are updated yearly and accommodate hardware that may be purchase before beginning college.

For further details, please visit the Graphic Design major information.

Communication Arts

Communication Arts students with a major in Mass Media Communication and a concentration in MultiMedia Production enter this program in the junior year and are charged a $1,800 lab fee to cover the purchase of a specialized computer. This computer is loaded with various media software owned by ORU. Students have use of the software for two years. At the end of the senior year, the software is removed and the computers are returned to the students. Because specifications change frequently, computers brought as freshman do not work in this context. This program requires application and selection.
