Bryce's Story
Take Note: This Writing Major Loves ORU
Well-spoken and exhibiting an unassuming demeanor, honors
student Bryce Merkl of Denver,
Colo., definitely fits the
profile of an aspiring writer. With hopes of working in the newspaper or
magazine industry, he also wants to write novels.
After applying to ORU with a high ACT score and a 4.0
grade-point average, Bryce was invited to be a fellow in the ORU Honors Program
and received the Presidential Scholarship, which covers 80 percent of his
tuition. He has also attained scholarships for his work as the news editor of
the student newspaper, The Oracle,
along with a few other smaller scholarships. Scheduled to graduate in 2011,
Bryce expressed that had it not been for the scholarships he has received, it
would have been difficult for him to attend ORU without taking on a large
amount of debt.
“The Presidential Scholarship was a big deciding factor to
come” to ORU, Bryce said.
Bryce counts chapel services and his work with The Oracle as some of his most valuable
experiences so far at ORU. He also shared that he greatly enjoys his
interaction with his professors, who have challenged him to grow.
“When it gets into the nitty gritty, that’s what I love the
most,” Bryce said. “There are lots of different things I like about ORU, but
the faculty and the way they teach professionally, yet from a Christian
worldview, is just priceless.”
Gifts to ORU really do make a difference in the lives of
students like Bryce, providing scholarships and so much more. At this very
moment, there are numerous Bryce Merkls in the U.S. and around the world who are
hoping and praying for the opportunity to attend ORU -- and Gift Club members
help make it happen.
