ORU's Expansion Continues with the Purchase of Victory Bible Institute Building
Oral Roberts University has purchased from Victory Tulsa the buildings and seven acres on the southwest corner of 81st and Delaware. ORU plans to begin remodeling the main 100,000-square-foot building and the adjacent 14,000-square-foot warehouse immediately into a multi-purpose complex that will house Nursing, Engineering, Health Sciences, Counseling Services, ORU’s Online operations team, and the golf team. The new facility is expected to open later this year.
Widening of Evelyn Roberts Drive
A new guard shack was installed at the entrance to Evelyn Roberts Drive in mid-July. The roadway has also been widened. This work began in May and is complete!
New Supercomputer Dedication
ORU dedicated its new supercomputer on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. “Titan”, as it has been named, is a supercomputer consisting of more than 1300 physical, high-performance computing cores and can perform 45 trillion calculations per second. Faculty and students are already using it to help predict the weather. The multi-semester project is focused on developing weather predictions by analyzing decades of weather measurement data, a method substantially different from traditional weather forecasting. ORU Biology Professor Dr. William Ranahan is using Titan to greatly increase and accelerate the work he and his students are performing in genetic sequence studies and research. Dr. Ranahan was recently recognized for his research using fungi to treat breast cancer.
Nursing SIM Lab
The Anna Vaughn College of Nursing has a new SIM (simulation) lab. Several rooms (former offices/storage space) on the third floor of the Graduate Center were remodeled to create a high-fidelity conference room, eight examining rooms (primarily for health assessments), and a storage area. Nursing students from sophomores to seniors will use this space.
Intramural Sports Park
Students now have a new place to play intramural sports—and the rugby club has a home. The field on the southeast corner of 81st Street and South Lewis Avenue (adjacent to CityPlex Towers) accommodates softball, soccer, sand volleyball, football, lacrosse, and rugby. The facility also features bleacher seating, restrooms, parking spaces, and a walking trail that circles the park. The ribbon for this brand-new Sports Park was officially cut on October 23, and the field was inaugurated with a rugby practice and the intramural football championship game!
