Dr. Celestino Velásquez

Dr. Celestino Velásquez

Assistant Professor of Biology

Dr. Velásquez began teaching at ORU in August 2017. His classroom philosophy aligns with the Irish poet W.B. Yeats who once wrote, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."  His philosophy is to ignite in his students the desire for learning. Dr. Velásquez wants students not only to memorize scientific concepts but also to think critically and solve problems, even beyond the scope of the degree they are pursuing.

What Dr. Velásquez enjoys the most about teaching is stirring the same fascination for science within his students that his parents, high school teachers and college professors have instilled within him. He comments, "Biology, the study of God's creation, is fascinating."
