Dr. Jeff Lamp

Associate Professor, College of Theology and Ministry

Jeff LampWeightlifting, camping and keeping up with his two beloved basset hounds, Harley and Norma Jean, keep Dr. Lamp pretty busy when he's away from campus. Although Dr. Lamp has shown basset hounds in the past, both of his current dogs were rescued, not purchased.

When he's on campus, he's teaching Biblical Greek, New Testament Letters, Beginning Preaching and Principles of Biblical Interpretation. Plus, he's undertaking some exciting research exploring the intersection between theology and ecology. For this, he collaborates with such organizations as the Ecological Hermeneutics section with the Society of Biblical Literature.

Dr. Lamp was born in South Dakota, but lived in Tulsa from age 10. He completed his B.S. at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, undertook seminary at ORU and received his Ph.D. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago.

He was ordained in the United Methodist Church as a Deacon in 1991 and an elder in 1999. Dr. Lamp pastored in the United Methodist Church for eight years. Having always wanted to teach, for three years he led classes at ORU part-time before becoming a full-time professor in fall 2000. "I enjoy developing relationships with my students," Dr. Lamp commented. "I think the bond between faculty and students is closer at ORU that at most other universities. I keep in touch with many of my students for years after they graduate. It's fun to see where God is taking them in their lives."

Dr. Lamp is married to wife Monica and enjoys spending time with his two grandsons and granddaughter.
