Master of Arts Missions

Program Overview

The Master of Arts Missions is a specialized degree program designed to train competent professionals to carry the healing  Gospel "where God's light is seen dim, where His voice is heard small, where His healing power is not known, even to the uttermost bounds of the earth." The program presents a well-rounded philosophy of missions with emphases on biblical principles, the ministry of healing, worldwide evangelism, church planting and methods of cross-cultural communication.  It prepares students for effective cross-cultural ministry in foreign and home missions organizations, as well as other related ministries.

Program Objectives

I chose the MA in Missions because I wanted to learn how to engage in cross-cultural ministry. I spent 14 years overseas, but never thought of missions as an academic or professional endeavor. I wanted to learn how to avoid the mistakes I have seen others make on the mission field and how to most effectively communicate across cultural and linguistic barriers.

I enjoy the challenging nature of the classes. Class assignments range from studying how different churches grew to learning to speak a foreign language (Hindi in my case). The professors are experts with years of experience in cross-cultural ministry, and I enjoy the depth that they bring to each class. The style of teaching is geared to push each student to study and learn so they will not approach missions flippantly. This degree is for those who want to make a true impact in any place where cultures collide, be that in Asia or America or any place in between. That is why I enjoy it.

I like the level of excellence that the professors have at ORU. The professors really make ORU an outstanding university. They are all experts in their areas and they have such a depth of knowledge so that it encourages me to continue to learn and not to take their classes for granted.
