Sports Management Major

Bachelor of Science Degree

Program Overview

The sports industry is one of the largest revenue generating industries in the United States and globally, generating over $400 billion per year. It is a diverse and growing field incorporating multiple sectors including professional organizations, collegiate organizations and individual colleges, public and private organizations, media and entertainment agencies, and facilities and events operations. While the field is specialized, jobs in sports management continue to expand and are in high demand.

ORU’s Sports Management degree prepares student for advanced work in all sectors of the sports industry by providing a broad understanding of the field, while also teaching specific management skills in the areas of finance, sports personnel management, law, sports marketing, and facility or event management. Based in Tulsa, OK, students have the unique opportunity to learn hands on with both professional sport organizations – Tulsa Shock (WNBA), Tulsa 66ers (NBAD), OKC Thunder (NBA), Tulsa Oilers (CHL), Tulsa Drillers (AA-MLB), PGA and LPGA, as well as NCAA Division I athletic departments – Oral Roberts University (Southland Conference), and the University of Tulsa (American Athletic Conference).

Facilities

The Sports Management department is located in the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center. Kenneth H. Cooper, a former Air Force physician and innovator of the exercise program used by astronauts, supported this aspect of the whole-person philosophy. The Aerobics Center facility includes classrooms, an indoor swimming pool, basketball courts, an indoor running track and state-of-the-art exercise equipment for both men and women. The faculty and staff provide an encouraging environment for students to learn and participate in activities that will provide enjoyable leisure and fitness on a regular basis.

Multiple venues on ORU’s campus for student internships includes the Mabee Center, Case Soccer Complex, J.L. Johnson Baseball Stadium and other collegiate venues around the city of Tulsa.
