Program Overview

The engineering physics major is designed to provide the necessary tools for students to become a professional physicists who may choose to enter industry, professional school and/or graduate school. Application of physics concepts in engineering is emphasized in various courses where students acquire a sound foundation of the laws of physics as well as a solid mathematic background.


ORU Distinguishing Features

"When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a hairstylist, an artist, a cow girl and someone who helped the world. Growing up, I struggled with how I was going to accomplish all of these dreams. What career path would allow me to use the design aspect of hairdressing, the creativity of an artist, the confidence of a cow girl and the desire to help others? That’s how I came to the conclusion I would come to ORU and major in Engineering Physics. The program requires use of “both sides” of your brain. I have always enjoyed math and science, which is necessary in my chosen field of study. The engineering classes are difficult but fun once you understand the concepts.

ORU's engineering program has a broad liberal arts base. This distinctive foundation equips students in the application of science and technology for the improvement of the world and enables graduates to enter the engineering and scientific communities and contribute to the healing of the human condition.

Engineering students at ORU have the opportunity to apply their learning and test theories in the real world. Students at all levels are involved with creative, cutting-edge projects. Past projects include:

  • a full-sized composite aircraft
  • a remote-controlled mine-sweeping robot
  • a shark-bite meter

Outcomes

Engineering graduates are in high demand and typically receive high starting salaries. Some ORU graduates choose to pursue graduate studies at major universities. Many also work for a wide range of industries including Baker Hughes, Danaher, Boeing, G.E., Cessna and Toyota and also put their engineering skills to use on the mission field.
