Assistant Professor, College of Education

Richard Berumen came to ORU in 2004 after spending 4 years in public school classrooms and 23 years as an elementary and middle school principal. God had a new plan for his life. If there's any doubt, consider that he retired from the school district where he had worked form 27 years in July and in August was asked to come to ORU. He knows with certainty he is living and serving where God wants him to be.
When he's not up to his elbows in papers and preparing for class, Richard enjoys tinkering with classic cars. Over the past 25 years he has restored dozens of foreign cars including Jaguars, Mercedes, Alfa Romeos and other exotic vehicles. After lovingly replacing each damaged gear, lock and steering wheel, he takes the cars to car shows, sells them and picks up another as his next project. He has just completed work on his 1968 AMX.
While restoring classic cars is something of a solitary hobby, Richard enjoys traveling around the western United States with his family. He, his wife Sharon, daughter Lindsey and son David love to kayak, hike and bike in the Rocky Mountains and the Tetons. "God has richly blessed me," Richard commented. "He has given me a wonderful family and He has used me to be a Christian witness in the public schools. Now, I am able to help future teachers as they prepare to educate our children. I feel grateful for all I've been given."
