Education Doctoral Students Get
Hands-On Experience

A group of College of Education doctoral students, led by Dr. Sherri Tapp, associate professor of graduate education, visited the Laura Dester Shelter, a temporary home for abused and neglected children in Tulsa.

Dr. Tapp takes her students who are working toward a doctorate in Educational Leadership to the shelter in an effort to expose them to servant leadership in action. Students interact with the children including rocking and feeding babies, folding clothes, and helping with meals and clean-up. They also work with the administration and tour the facility including the onsite school. And, they learn about the child welfare system and how it will impact them in their future careers in education. This is the third time the graduate education school has volunteered at the shelter.
