Professor, Early Childhood Education

Jean Mosley was born and raised in Clinton, Mississippi, where her father taught chemistry at Mississippi College, a Christian college founded in 1826. She met her husband Mike when his family moved in just down the street from Jean's family. They've known each other well since the 7th grade.
Pursuing her talents as a pianist and her interest in becoming a teacher, Jean received her Bachelor degree in music education from Mississippi College
Jean describes how she came to ORU as a "God thing." "Knowing what others had gone through to get their Ph.D. I always said I would never do it. But God had other plans," Jean commented. Jean undertook a doctoral program at Louisiana State University to learn how to help children who would not succeed without extra help. It wasn't easy. While she was working on her doctorate, her son broke his leg and was hospitalized and then her husband decided he wanted to move the family to Tulsa to work with his brother. Jean ultimately finished her doctorate from a distance.
At the time Jean first interviewed at ORU, the university didn't have a program in early childhood education, but they asked Jean if she would like to start one on campus. She's been at ORU ever since.
Jean enjoys quilting and sewing, and even made her daughter's wedding gown. She uses quilt designs in her classes as well to help her better illustrate principles.
Jean commented, "I've spent most of my life having the Lord asking me to do things I didn't like, then discovering that God knew me better than I know myself. All of the things I did have been blessings to me."
