Professor, College of Business
His degrees - B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. - mean something extra special to Dr. Walt MacMillan. After all, he didn't start his college education until age 42.
Always a bright kid, a go-getter and good student, Walt went to work right out of high school. At age 18, he was already general manager of a grocery store in his hometown of Rochester, New York. He was vice president and general merchandise manager of a New Jersey department store and then a corporate vice president by 31. He had a successful business career, achieved the hard way by working his way up from the ground floor. It was later, after he had started and sold multiple stores in Texas, that he decided he was ready to do something different with his life.
So, he began college, earning a B.A. from the University of Oklahoma and an M.A. from Southern Nazarene University. Ultimately, he earned his Ph.D. from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Dr. MacMillan came to ORU in 1998 as a faculty member with both book learning and invaluable real world experience under his belt. Since that time, he has educated hundreds of students and written and presented numerous professional papers at conferences throughout the United States. He has also won numerous awards including College of Business Faculty Member of the Year, Chair's Award for Scholarship in the Classroom, University Scholar of the Year and College of Business Outstanding Service Award.
Walt is married to his wife Dottie and they have two grown children. Walt and Dottie enjoy traveling and have visited Mexico, China, Nepal, Costa Rica, Norway, Belgium, Spain, Thailand, New Zealand and Australia.
