Professor, College of Business
"I'm working on my doctorate and I don't have any free time." This was Ardith Baker's initial response when asked about her interests outside the classroom. However, it became obvious there was much more to Ardith than studying and teaching. She is also the editor along with co-editor David Whitlock of the devotional book Solomon Was a Business Man - Advice from the Wealthiest Man on Earth. This book features devotionals by several ORU professors including Dr. Marshal Wright, Dr. Julie Huntley, Dr. David Dyson, Dr. Walt MacMillan, Chris Putman and, of course, Ardith and David Whitlock. The book that was five years in the writing was published in fall 2008.
Ardith also has another publishing effort underway. Her recent study of decision making on the television game Deal or No Deal has been accepted for publication in an online journal.
When she's not studying or writing, Ardith spends her time with her husband and grandchildren - a boy 21/2, another boy 8 and a girl 5. Her son attended ORU for two years and her daughter graduated from ORU's College of Nursing in 2004.
More than anything else, Ardith enjoys getting to know the students at ORU. "Long after they graduate, we'll stay in touch. Many of them, including my current assistant, I'm sure, will be cherished lifelong friends," Ardith commented. The business professor and part-time writer is right at home at ORU.
