Assistant Professor, College of Arts and Cultural Studies
Lori Kanitz loves hiking and being out in nature. She hikes all around Tulsa with her black lab Emma and has made several trips to the Colorado Rockies for mountain hiking, twice tackling "fourteeners."
She first got into hiking while in England for her graduate work at the University of Durham. Joining a hiking group, she tromped over much of the English countryside discovering the quiet pleasures of gardens, hedgerows and historic castles.
Lori spent her early years in Salina, Kansas, until her family moved to Tulsa when she was in junior high school. She earned her B.A. with highest honors from Oklahoma University in Norman. After teaching English for three years in an Oklahoma City high school, she went to the University of Durham in England on full scholarship for her M.A. in Literature and Theology. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Literature and Theology at St. Andrews University in Scotland.
After completing her degree, Lori returned to Tulsa and applied for a teaching position at ORU. The rest is history. She has taught in the College of Arts and Cultural Studies for the past 16 years. "The students are the most rewarding part of my job," Lori remarked. "It is wonderful to sense God's calling on their lives and the purpose with which they approach their coursework. It is inspiring to see them connect what they are doing in class to more than just their career, but to their spiritual life as well."
