Amy McIntosh

Assistant Professor, Director of Dance

Amy McIntoshAmy loves everything about dance and she's using her enthusiasm and abilities to minister to people in need.  Through her church she works with children in dance improvisation, communicating themes from scripture as well as cultural themes that are important to the children.  She calls these experiences "Movement Stories" and children love to get involved.

In 2004, Amy also started the dance company "Living Water" that has performed with faculty on campus and at the New Genre Festival at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, Williams Theatre. Although she's a local Tulsa girl, Amy earned her B.F.A. at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and her M.F.A. at State University of New York where she met Jacob, whom she later married. They have a three year old son, Morgan. Like many dancers, Amy dreamed of living and working in New York City, and for a time she did just that, working as a dancer with Randy James Dance Works in the city.

However, she longed to do something more with her faith so when she had the opportunity to start a dance program at Belhaven College, a Christian school in Jackson, Mississippi, she jumped at it. She served as the assistant professor and associate chairman of the department for five and a half years.

Amy actually returned to Tulsa because of her husband taking a job as the associate director of Camp Loughridge. Amy commented, "Jacob has a real passion for camping ministry and he enjoys helping people through summer camp and retreats." Amy continued her teaching as an adjunct professor at the University of Tulsa for a year. Then, Laura Holland from ORU phoned one day and invited her to start the dance major at ORU. She was delighted.

"I love pioneering new things and the opportunity to integrate faith with learning," Amy remarked. "It's so great to be able to talk about my faith and teach not just dance, but minister to the whole person."
